Dr. Ruddy A. Valdes is a board certified emergency medicine and internal medicine physician, and president of Small Hospital Innovations (SHI) and Hospital Innovation Physicians. Dr. Valdes completed his undergraduate studies at St. Thomas University and his medical degree from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine. He went on to complete a dual residency in emergency medicine and internal medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York.
Following that, Dr. Valdes moved back to South Florida and joined Teamhealth Southeast as an ER physician at Palmetto General Hospital. Dr. Valdes later served as ER Medical Director at Hialeah Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital North (formerly Parkway Regional Hospital) and Memorial Hospital Miramar. Dr. Valdes then became Teamhealth’s Regional Medical Director in Dade County.
In 2013, Dr. Valdes founded Small Hospital Innovations and Hospital Innovation Physicians, an Emergency Medicine and Hospital Medicine physician staffing company and currently serves as its President. Dr. Valdes is actively involved at Hendry Regional Medical Center as associate ER medical director and hospital medicine program director.
Over the last 15 years, Dr. Valdes has earned a reputation for his hard work and dedication to patient care and understanding of the hospital’s demands for excellence.
On a personal level, Dr. Valdes lives in Pompano Beach, Florida with his wife and children. In his free time Dr. Valdes enjoys boating, playing sports and spending time with his family. Dr. Valdes can be reached at rvaldes@hiphys.com or on LinkedIn.
Chris Deer, M.D., FACEP

Dr. Chris Deer is a Board Certified Emergency Physician. After finishing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Zoology at Iowa State University, he attended University of Puerto Rico’s Medical School where he graduated with a Medical Doctor degree. He then completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology Internship at the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Medical Centers in Bethesda, Maryland and Washington DC.
As a US Naval Flight Surgeon, Dr. Deer worked with other NATO physicians during the Kosovo conflict, and served aboard the USS Eisenhower while on deployment to the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean. Later he completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at Michigan State University where he served as Chief Resident.
Working as a board certified emergency physician, Dr Deer has worked at various hospitals in South Florida since 2004 and distinguished himself in the areas of patient satisfaction as well as efficient, timely and outstanding medical care.
While medically directing the Emergency Departments at Hialeah Hospital, and Imperial Point Medical Center, Dr. Deer worked with the administrative teams to shorten patient wait times, increase patient satisfaction, improve quality and core measures, and establish geriatric friendly rooms and protocols.
Dr. Deer has joined Ruddy Valdes as the Vice-President of Small Hospital Innovations and Hospital Innovation Physicians and he is the associate Medical Director of Hendry Regional’s Emergency Department.
Dr. Deer is a husband and the father of a newborn baby boy and on his free time he enjoys gardening, family time, water sports and entertaining. Dr Deer can be reached at cd@hiphys.com or on LinkedIn.
